Fans and critics are confused as it has been announced that Idris Elba is scheduled to perform April 13th and April 20th at Coachella.
Most of us know the 46 year old actor for his roles on the big screen but have no idea about his love for music. Prior to becoming a Hollywood star, he use to work in nightclubs as a DJ, using the nickname “Big Driis”.
Don’t get it twisted, he is not just a small town DJ from back in the day. Some of his artistic and DJ credits include: co-producing and performing on the intro to Jay-Z’s album American Gangster (2007); he DJ’ed at the 2007 NBA All Star parties at The Venetian and Ice House Lounge in Las Vegas; in 2009 he released his EP High Class Problems Vol. 1; in 2014, he produced K. Michelle’s “The Rebellious Soul Musical”; in November 2015, Elba opened for Madonna during her Rebel Heart Tour in Berlin, Germany and he’s featured on the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis album This Unruly Mess I’ve Made (2016).
Coachella will not be the first music festival Idris has performed at as a DJ – he also previously plied his trade at England’s Glastonbury festival.
